How to Prepare for a Fresh 48 Session
Fresh 48 sessions are some of my absolute favorites! These
sessions capture your newborn during those magical first 48
hours of life—when everything is brand new, tiny, and you are
just getting to know the new person right in front of you.
Your baby changes so quickly in those first days, and I love being
able to document that brand-new goodness for you and your
family.
I can’t wait to meet your family!
Scheduling Your Fresh 48 Session
Please keep me updated on the progress of your appointments with the provider and how things are going. (For example, if you’re suddenly dilated, need to schedule an induction, or might need a C-section, etc.)
The most important thing is to let me know when you are on your way to the hospital, and once the baby arrives, so that I can have a general idea when the baby might be coming, and make plans accordingly.
While I never plan to be out of town around your due date, to make sure I am available for the session, there is still a small chance that I won’t be able to make it. In this case, I have backup photographers who will be able to cover the session for me.
How to prepare for your Fresh 48 session
- When packing your hospital bag, please make sure you have all your outfits, including any specially made items (name signs, blankets, toys).
- Feed the baby a few minutes before my arrival. The goal is to have a tired, sleepy baby. If you would like to include breastfeeding photos in the session, please wait until I arrive so I can capture those moments.
- To make sure the baby is comfortable and cozy, keep the room temperature around 80 degrees. Bring some extra blankets, throws, and clothes.
- You may swaddle the baby, but at some point, I will ask you to remove the swaddle to capture the baby’s tiny details, such as feet, toes, and hands.
How to Dress for Your Fresh 48 Session
- For the mom, I recommend keeping it simple and comfortable —wearing your hospital gown or a soft, easy-to-wear robe —with minimal accessories, so you can focus on the newborn and the authentic, raw moments.
- Try to complement, not match, the colors the baby is wearing. Wear neutrals with texture, like knits, linen, or cotton.

- For the baby, decide which look is closer to your style: a “natural” look with the baby only wearing a diaper, or something cozy and cute.
- If you want to dress the baby, make sure it is not a very bright color, but rather something neutral or pastel.
- The dad should wear simple, comfortable clothing in neutral or soft colors—like a plain t-shirt or button-up with jeans or casual pants—so the focus stays on the baby and family moments.
After the Fresh 48 Session
I’ll send you some sneak peeks 48 hours after your session via email, and the whole gallery - within three weeks via a downloadable web gallery. You’ll be able to create favorite lists, share online, or download your images to use for baby announcements, family newsletters, and cute framed images for your home.
